We’re moving right along into the heart of the holiday season not being too far removed from Halloween. With gratitude and in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I’m honored to be Susan Cooper’s guest at “Finding Our Way Now” with the contribution of this month’s story.

I hope it will bring you home to the things that are important in your life. Please enjoy:

The Little Things

What is one thing that you still remember to this day that warms your heart and puts a smile on your face? I’ll bet it was something spontaneous and incidental but you still remember it as if it was just yesterday….where you were, who was with you, the sounds and smells.

It’s not anything big – you tune into the little things. It may be a twinkle in the eyes of a loved one as they tell you some exciting news or read something to you that inspired them.

My husband wrote a poem years ago that is one of those special little things that means a lot to me. I have it hanging on the wall.

He was taking some classes in college at the time and not long before we had left our roots in Toledo and Cape Charles, VA and headed west.

It was 1969 and our trek was similar to a modern-day wagon train except we were in our Volvo station wagon with 2 dogs pulling a U-Haul. . . (read more)

Thank you, Susan, for the opportunity to share my story with your readers. It is my hope this will kick off the month with love and gratitude and carry throughout the holidays.

    • Hi Alexander — I’m happy to meet you and enjoyed the story. It is nice when another blogger features us and I’m honored to contribute to Susan’s site.

I like your site and also see that you’re a writer. I like your tag line “I’m a writer with roaring flames in my heart…”. I hope to see you again and learn more about you and your stories. Thank you for reading and stopping by to leave a comment. It means a lot. 🙂

    • Thank you, Andrea. I’m glad you enjoyed it the second time around. The video by Louie Schwartzberg is awe-inspiring and worthy to include for gratitude. He expresses it so much better. I love it and wanted to share it again. I never get tired of it. 🙂

  1. I have commented over at Susan’s site Pat, this is just beautiful. It is indeed the little things that inspire us, give us hope and fill us with overwhelming gratitude. I remember reading about your journey and loved doing to so again. Also Jim’s incredibly moving poem, and I love how it is written out on the paper. A priceless treasure. Just beautiful my friend. Have a beautiful day 🙂 <3

    • Thank you, Sherri, for stopping by and leaving a comment. So happy you went over to Susan’s site. I know you guys have read a lot of these stories before on these guest postings but it’s helping me to keep active and post while I’m working through the eyesight stuff.

You’re right — it is the little things that inspire and give us hope. I hope you had a chance to watch the video. It’s so worth the time in watching it to the end. I keep going back to it when I need to feel love and be inspired.

I’m glad you enjoyed hubby’s poem. It always takes me back whenever I read it. He couldn’t have expressed the times and how he was feeling any better. It is a treasure, for sure Sherri, and was published in a college chrysalis for a Journalism class. Many years ago, a friend of mine took the poem from the publication and mounted it on a board and decoupaged it for a wall hanging. God, that’s been over 35 years. Whew! Where does the time go.

Anyway, he’s a much better writer than I and helps me on editing my posts. Over the years, he’s told me the stories of a number of fiction books he has in his head but has never written them down. He’s just now starting to do that on a site he’s developing along with photography, like you. Drives me crazy how talented he is. But, I know he has his path, too, and I’m loving watching his process. Hugs to you, my friend and have a great week. 🙂

  2. I left a message at Susan’s blog but don’t know if it went through so posting it here as well..What a delightful share this is Pat and I yes whenever I watch that video it brings tears to my eyes.. so much beauty!! I love Louie Schwartzberg’s close-up encounters.
It’s indeed the little things that make up the big ones.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

    • Aw, Karin, I saw you over on Susan’s blog. Thank you for stopping by and leaving your warm and thoughtful comments. I’m happy you enjoyed it and loved Louie Schartzberg’s video. It’s one of my favorites and I love going back to it from time-to-time. It helps me fall in love all over again with life and the wonders of it all. Makes me appreciate the simple things we tend to overlook and take for granted.

Wishing you a special Thanksgiving this year, my friend, filled with happiness and joy, surrounded by love with family and friends. 🙂
