Passion and Enthusiasm

©© You can usually tell by talking with them that they live and breathe what they are talking about. You can feel the energy shift when that type of person enters a room. They attract everyone to them and you feel you just want to be around them. On the other hand, there are some people that have charismatic personalities but they don’t carry the same heart-felt passion. They don’t attract people in the same way. They attract people the way a sales person might. What is the difference? What is genuine? In my opinion, I think it comes from one’s life experience and what has touched their heart. If they can express themselves from that place, they don’t have to prove anything. They are coming from a place of love and they’re genuine.

I want to share with you a video of such a person, Randy Pausch, a 47-year professor at Carnegie Melon University’s Entertainment and Technology Center. He talks about how he achieved most of his childhood dreams and gives realistic advice as to how we can also live our lives so we can make our dreams come true too. You’ll see passion and someone full of life and enthusiasm and yet he has been diagnosed with a terminal disease. Be inspired of someone with a positive and inspirational outlook on life. The video is over an hour long but it’s well worth the viewing if you want a lift for the day. It was entitled, 47-Year Old Professor Gives Exuberant ‘Last Lecture’

I believe we all have the potential to live our dreams as Randy and we all can be a light in our little corner of the world. In fact, this is what we’re supposed to do. Look for your passion – your genuine enthusiasm – from that place in your heart that’s truth. Then, go take it to the world.

“Love one another and help others to rise to the higher levels, simply by pouring out love. Love is infectious and the greatest healing energy.” – Sai Baba

End Note: Randy lost his battle with cancer on July 25, 2008. May you rest in peace, Randy, and may the angels be with you.

  1. Desika – thank you for your comment. When I saw this video of Randy’s “last lecture” last fall it was very inspirational and motivating. He creates that enthusiastic energy and I imagine he is one of the ones that lights up a room when he enters. Sweet energy of light, love and peace to him and his family.

  2. I am actually downloading that video, for which I may write a longer review later on my blog, and which I will definitely share with you furthermore Pat 🙂

Meanwhile, there is an extract which I really appreciated in your post, when you mentioned, I quote: “On the other hand, there are some people that have charismatic personalities but they don’t carry the same heart-felt passion. They don’t attract people in the same way. They attract people the way a sales person might.” When I read that extract, I especially made the vision of people working for the account of a company. Most of working people unfortunately don’t work because they love their job, but only to obtain their salary at the end of the month. Such people mostly tend to adopt the sales person attitude, in the way you described it in your post. This is very sad nowadays that people stop using their heart and rather use only their brain to attract people.

I remember that a couple of months ago, together with my husband and our young son, we did a trip to Montreal. We had two coaches, a French one and a Canadian one. The French one was an expatriate in Montreal. My dear Pat, I wish you were with me during the tour! You would have felt an incredible energy, vibration, love and passion within that gentleman’s beautiful voice, describing Montreal as the most beautiful destination ever! However, the second tour guide was a Quebecois, and compared to the French one, he just showed us the places we visited but with such a flat intonation and accent that we started falling asleep and went out of the bus after less than 5 mins since we didn’t want to continue the trip with him!

You can really feel the difference, when there is someone doing something with passion, and when someone is doing something because they don’t have choice or only because they have to satisfy their own ego and personal goals and not because they want to help the company improving.

    • Hi Uma — I’m glad you enjoyed the post and think you will enjoy Randy Pausch’s “Last Lecture” as well. Some years have passed (2007) since I wrote that post and I had to revisit his video again. It still warmed my heart how he talked about the things he wanted to do in his life with such passion and enthusiasm.

You’re right with how our energy connects to one another and what it reflects. We can learn to do things amazingly well and be extremely good at what we do but something is missing if we are not doing it from our heart.

I would love to hear from you. . .thank you for stopping by.
